This Kicks FS2000 in the face*
* = if you live in Seattle! This game is truely great and offers a lot of good stuff that is missing from FS2000. However I dont know why they called it "Flight Unlimited" because it is limited, a more sutible name would be "Flight Limited" However for the price this game is great and i would recommend it to everyone!

The best civilian flight sim Ive tried
Well this game suits me down to the ground (no pun intended). Im seriously considering learning to fly for real and FU3 gives me just the realistic taste of the experience that Im after. The ground detail is the best Ive seen (though theres always room for improvement in this area as technology advances), the available planes offer a wide variety of flying experiences and best of all, the realistic radio comms allow the player to really interact with the world around him. If you see the limited play area as a disadvantage then dont. Microsofts Flight Sim may give you the world but its flat and very short on detail. FU3s area (the whole of the west coast of America - the north west in great detail, the rest less so) gives you a nice variety of sea, lakes, urban, country and mountanous areas to avoid crashing into. If youre remotely interested in real flying, buy Flight Unlimited 3, its the best.

As real as it gets
The scenery makes FS2000 look five years old, but it is restricted to Washington State, USA. There are lots of other planes flying around, who are all interacting with ATC - oh yes, you get full Air Traffic Control services for the major airports and radar vectors for standard approaches. Follow the taxi instructions on the ground, or like me, you can end up with a very broken plane after a close encounter with a 747 on final. If you have FUII, you can also import the San Francisco scenery, allowing you to fly most of the West Coast. It doesnt have the scope of FS2000, but it makes up for it in sheer looks and playability. The weather is fantastic. The loss of Looking Glass Studios is a tragedy - the future looked bright for Flight Unlimited, not to mention the Thief and System Shock series. Buy this while you still can.
