A Diamond
This digital camera is a real diamond..The camera itself if well featured and very user friendly. The Cannon Software and PhotoStitch are excellent tools for viewing and saving your photos. The battery life is good and the quality of the shots in auto mode are really great. Only thing and not really about this camera.. All cameras now should have minimum standard 64mb flash card..What use is 8mb????? Andy

Best camera I have ever owned
Over the years I have had many cameras but none that have taken so many pictures that I want to keep. The reason is simple this camera is small, light and easy to use. It can live in your pocket quite comfortably so it is always to hand when you see something you want to photograph as opposed to all my previous cameras that are in a bag, glove box or simply left at home. The camera is so well built that I have no qualms about putting it in my pocket unprotected and the automatic lens cover has always kept the lens clean. My one worry has always been the soft LCD screen but apart from having to clean it on a regular basis to date it has yet to get scratched or damaged. One useful gimmick is the panorama shots where the camera will display the last 1/3rd of the previous shot to allow approximate matching for the next shot in the sequence. This along with the included software has created many wonderful panoramic shots. The one downside of the camera is that it uses special battery cells that it can eat at alarming rate especially if you are using the preview screen or flash a lot. The one recommended accessory is a spare battery because you will use this camera so much you will need it.
To sum up, yes its pictures can be bettered by cameras cheaper than it and there are cleverer cameras but no matter how many cameras you have this will be the one that puts the most photos in your album for the simple reason that it will always be with you and surely that is what counts the most.

Not just tiny, but very capable.
Im no newcomer to digital photography, and I can truly say that this is one of the finest "point & shoot" digitals. It looks wonderful, takes excellent pictures, and has a very good feature list. Not many cameras of this size has an optical zoom, video with sound, high resolution LCD panel, and such high speed of operation.
It is only fair to point out the few minor weaknesses: No case is supplied, which is a pity because the optical viewfinder is susceptible to taking in dust while the LCD viewfinder panel is quite fragile. Video shots are quite short, especially in high resolution; it could have used more buffer memory. It takes an odd-ball battery... The optical viewfinder is not well placed if you have a nose, and most of us do, and the camera does not feel very secure in the hand. The flash is prone to causing red-eye because the double-flashes are too close together. I had some bother installing the software under Windows98 though with Windows XP it was easy.
But I dont want to leave the impression that any of these problems is serious enough to reject the camera. It takes great pictures, even in poor light. Close-ups are excellent, (nearly) all functions are easy to use and the zoom is a delight (starts optical then switches to digital if you zoom again). The camera is so tiny you can carry it everywhere and so get shots you would miss with a bulkier model. It uses the cheapest and most popular Compact Flash memory so you can get a whopping memory card for it easily... It responds quickly to commands so you shouldnt miss the shot you want. The flash is very powerful, much better than a Minolta E203. The LCD is high resolution unlike HP cameras and others.
I never fail to be delighted with this outstanding camera, consider it first...

Canon NB2L Spare NiMH rechargeable battery for PowerShot S- Series

Having had my Canon S40 for about 2 years I recently invested in a spare battery. I chose the Canon NB2L and have been very pleased with it. It holds its charge well and is essential if, like me, you tend to forget to charge the battery in the camera on a regular basis. I dont leave home without it ..

Canon Ixus 330 Digital Camera [2.0MP 3xOptical]

This little camera is a beauty. It is my second digital camera and I simply love it. I purchased it over a year ago, and have had no complaints. It isn’t available on the market anymore (I don’t think) as they now have the Ixus 400, however reading this may help you get to know the Ixus ..
