A Polished Racer
This is the new and improved “sequel” to the Dreamcast game ‘Metropolis Street Racer’, from Bizarre Creations, and it’s a great Xbox game. Featuring a selection of highly desirable cars like the Ferrari F50, the Porsche 911 and the Aston Martin Vanquish; hundreds of tracks based around real-life locations in San Francisco, Tokyo, London plus New York; a new and improved Kudos system and structure to the main Kudos Challenge mode; the beautiful handling model that allows for lots of satisfying slides and jumps; the chance to rip your own soundtrack; highly impressive visuals; lots of race and challenge options; a well judged learning curve that constantly pushes the player a little further with every new stage; and great A.I. for the computer controlled racers that allows them to make mistakes, adding to the illusion of realism.Project Gotham Racing is my driving game of choice as it is slightly more accessible, rewarding and varied than the great, pioneering – but stagnating – Gran Tourismo series on the Playstation platforms. A gem of a game.

The Best Way to Beat the London Congestion Charge
There is something childishly satisfying about driving past Buckingham Palace at 100mph. Sideways. Which sums up one of the main attractions of Project Gotham (PG). The location graphics are superb (New York, San Fransisco, London and Tokyo) and the fun of driving around recognisable streets adds to the games pleasure. There is an excellent range of cars and the driving experience is first-rate.But perhaps one of the games best features is the large number of different types of race/event it offers, with many different ways to accumulate points (timed races, obstacle courses, racing against computer-controlled cars or other players, etc). Even if you havent yet mastered winning races, youre still rewarded for number of miles driven and hours spent playing the game. Different types of event unlock new cars, new paint colours, new circuits, even new types of event. You can even put your own, real-life number plate on the cars. The game is just a pleasure from start to end, at whatever level you choose to play. Some non-realistic aspects are that tyres, etc, never wear out, and all damage is magically repaired before the next race, at no penalty to you. Some may not like that - in which case check out Sega GT instead. But if your priority is the driving experience I think its still the best Xbox game available.

I want to buy a real Mini Cooper
Buying an XBox got me back into arcade games so I visted the Namco arcade in London soon after. I couldnt find a driving game that compares with Project Gotham. My hands are killing me from playing this game. Its like a great book that you cant put down. Theres always one more challenge to have a go at.
Pros: 200 tracks, Loadsa real cars, Enough tasks and levels to keep you busy for months, Amazing graphics, Real streets to drive down, Customise the in car radio with your own CD tracks, Kudos reward system.
Cons: No crowds, Stops you playing your other XBox games, Cant get your friends to go home.

Its kept my five year old amused for ages, hes since moved onto other games but this ones definately a favourite. Its very frantic, has plenty of different tracks. Probably not one for adults or older teenagers...
