Dont believe the hype
Ive owned this for a couple of days now. I also own a Playstation 2 and wanted to broaden my gaming horizons. My initial concerns are the same as when I bought the Playstation 2. I currently fear for the lack of games and even more the lack of quality games.Halo is a fist person shooter - anybody that says its more than that is being blinded by the graphics - which are nice! But, the bottom line is that you run around an alien world in great scenery shooting things. Then you end up in various alien bases and shoot things. There isnt even the usual tasks of keys to find (possibly a plus point), puzzles to solve or doors to unlock - you are just led through a very linear path around the story to shoot things - which is fine - if you like that sort of thing. However, there are currently superior first person shooters out and I would personally prefer to wait for the fantastic Deus Ex (which I own for PC) for the Playstation 2 - this is a game with far superior depth. Im not knocking Halo, its great fun - looks fantastic - but not as good as the hype - its not accomplishing anything new gameplay wise. Dead or Alive 3 Ive also found limiting. However, I put this down to already owning a copy of DOA2 for my PS2. Although, believe it or not, the graphics are even better on the Xbox, there is no significant change in gameplay - if anything there is less to play for. In DOA2 you could unlock several new costumes after playing through the various modes enough. As far as Im aware there is only one extra costume for Kasumi (my fav.) plus a few ponytail alteration (which is simply a button press away and not an unlockable item). This is causing limited replay value for me as there is no insentive to play through the game several times as I know Im not gaining anything new by doing so. This may sound shallow but the appeal I hold for the DOA series (apart from the obvious buxom babes) was that although a great fighting game it added the sense of fun and wasnt as serious as the Tekken series. I cant help but feel its lost some of this. Again, if you already own the PS2 version this is not worth buying the Xbox for. For me the bottom line is that the Xbox obviously has the technology - but in hindsight I would have waited for the game developers to put it to better use and to prove the console before I made my purchase. Hopefully by christmas (as with the PS2) I can be proved wrong and more games worth forty odd quid will emerge. My advice would be - if you already own a PS2 youre not missing out on much and it may be worth waiting a bit longer before shelling out for the Xbox.

What a great present!!
What can i say, brilliant, got it for my birthday, ok it was a month a 5 days late but hey what a great present, what a great box set. First of all, HALO great and with the stategy guide, even better. Have to say i dont like to cheat buy when it comes to getting low down on enemy forces and the weaknesses, i cant say no. Brilliant game 10/10. DoA 3, wasnt as good, but still very good, dont really like these types of games but really got into it, the cutscenes are brill and the the graphics better. 8/10. Overall all amazing. havent used the 2nd control yet though, got it on a school day :(

Impressed
I ordered this X-box package, and it was virtually here the next day. I think this is the best package to go for. I have been into computers and consoles etc for a good 21 years, and I can say that the X-Box is something that I underestimated. After setting the console up, and powered it up. i came to the settings menu which was very easy to use. When all was done I put Dead or Alive 3 on. Never have I seen something like this kind of leap in technology for ages. Every little bit of the intro and the game run how it should. The graphics are crystal sharp theres no jaggies to find and the sound sounds great. I will be getting a proper lead for the scart and audio, as I have been told this makes it sound even better. Also HALO was and is just as much astounding. Both of the games have been given top marks in all the magazines etc. This machine shows you a very bright glimpse of what is to come in this and beyond in the new videogame era. There will be a lot of titles available on X-Box that no other console will have as of MS`s licencing. Microsoft has put a lot of work into this and it shows. So if you want the best this is it for a long while.
