Good mp3 decoder sound quality but...
Had this a couple of weeks now. Love the size of it and the mp3 decoder it better quality than my full size Sony DJ501. Not got the ID3 tag / filename display but no matter if its in my pocket. Ive experienced 2 problems, which I have reported to Philips tech support but I have had no response from them - poor show. These maybe problems with my particular device. 1. The AAC decoder plays back files at a vastly reduced output volume level than the MP3 decoder. Both of these files played back at exactly same output level/volume in winamp. 2. The resume function works fully on pre-rec 8cm CD. However, for MP3 it only retains the resume momery for a period of around 1-2 mins. If the device is left off for longer than that then the resume function doesnt work. Also the resume function in AAC mode can only resume from the begining of the track and not part way through it. The AAC decoder problem is disapointing as it is marketed as an AAC player as well as MP3. The resume error is very very frustrating and annoying as is Philips lack of tech support response to date.

Its a Pocket Rocket !!
Decided to take my first step into the world of MP3 and although an IPOD would have been lovely the budget dictated something cheaper. After a good trawl around the miriad of MP3 players on the market I was taken by the Philips EXP 401. On arrival I was more than impressed, its a neat package, about the size of a typical cassette walkman (remember those!!). I quickly burnt 3 albums onto the supplied 8cm media and fired up the player. Wow, great crisp sound, logical easy to use controls and skip free, sits easily in your pocket with full control using the in-line remote cliped to your jacket. It may have been a budget choice, but you get a lot for your bucks. Once my 8cm CDRWs arrive Ill be able to quickly burn discs and wipe them whenever I feel like listening to something different. Cool kit go on treat yourself !!!

Ma$e welcomes you to the world of mp3
This is a nice little introduction to mp3. Your £30 gets you the player, a blank 210MB CDR, earphone, a separate remote control and a mains adaptor. OK, so whats it like? Fantastic! The sound quality using mp3s recorded at 128kps is excellent - not miles away from CD quality and clearer than tapes. The first thing youll need to do though is to invest in some better earphones, the supplied ones dont have much bass in them. The second thing you need to get is a set of rechargable batteries - at full blast I got 5hrs play out of the unit. After that its up to you, youll really need to give it a whack to make it skip (hasnt jumped once yet for me), its just about the size of the average walkman so it fits into a pocket OK, and its not too heavy either. The CDs are super-cool, (you HAVE to see them) and at 128Kbps Ive been fitting about 50-60 tracks on a 210MB CD, at 64Kbps I had well over a hundred but the sound suffered. All of this for 1/10th of the price of an iMac.

This is my first CD Walkman and I feel I made a very good purchase. It’s got an attractive appearance and is very easy to use. The remote control buttons are the same as on the actual player, so no confusion as to what you’re pressing. Since I’ve had it, it’s taken a few extr..

Practical, good value, and fine sound quality. Works exceptionally well in the car, with the cassette-shaped gizmo you put in the car cassette player, and so far has not jumped even once, not even on the bumpiest roads. The whole jumble of wires and leads is easily connected and disconnected, if ..
