Philips Must Try Harder!
I was looking foreword to installing this Philips PCRW4816K/20 Series 48x16X48X CDRW as I installed a Philips 400 Series 4X4X32X on another computer some years ago. It was probably the easiest internal computer component I have had the pleasure of installing, the instructions were 2nd to none. I opted for the Philips over another drive with the same specifications because my previous experience with a Philips CDRW was very positive even though the Philips was costing £5 more than the other 48X 16X 48X CDRW I was considering buying. If I needed to depend on install instructions in print or on CD for the PCRW4816K/20 Series, I would be sadly very disappointed. The install wizard, drivers and programme CD that came with the Philips CDRW 48X 16X 48X drive kept reporting the following error [Director Player Error Cannot Divide by Zero]. The install information in print is very poor and if there was a better installation manual on the install wizard and programme CD I was unable to access it. I phoned Philips and was advised to download Windows installer and to do that go to http://www.microsoft.com and in the search option type installer. When it gets to the page click on the 2nd link which will get me to the installer 2.0 for Windows 95 to ME. The file name is InstMsiA.exe. So after downloading it I setup installer 2.0 and this did nothing sort out my problem. If you have never upgraded a computer in any way this can be very daunting especially if there is a lack of help either printed on paper or on a CD. Thankfully I have done this sort of thing before and knew what to do. If I were depending on software to write CDs again I would be disappointed. As I could not access the Philips CD I could not get access to the CD writing software on it, which I am told is Nero 5. Again thankfully I already have Nero 5.5 due to the fact that I bought it a while back. Help with installation Philips could do a lot better. Even at their web site there is no software at this time to download for the Philips PCRW4816K/20 Series CDRW. Speed, 3 minutes and 10 seconds to copy 483 MB of data set at 40X writing as that is the speed of the Cdrs that I have. I only have 4X CDRWs at this time and it took about 10 minutes to copy 304MB data. As soon as I get faster CDRW disks I will check the speed and how long it takes again but as far as I know it will only go up to 16X for CDRW disks. The drive itself seems to be an excellent buy but the poor help material stopped me from giving it 5 stars.

Philips 48x16x48 CDRW Drive for Mac G4
P>The installation for my G4 mac went painlessly using both OSX and OS9.2. The only problem which I found (for mac users only) is that the front design of the CDRW tray is curved and bulky and this does not allow the external door flap to close fully. The front of the tray can be removed but the open/close button is also bulky and hinders the closure of the external door. I have used this CDRW to burn many CDs now on both my mac and PC and I have no major problems with it. It is quite fast and reliable and I like the shape of it for the PC but it doesnt fit well in my Mac. For its price you cant really go too wrong but make sure that you or a friend have some knowledge of installing computer hardware.

Review of the Philips 48x16x48 CDRW Drive
I recently recieved this drive for Christmas. When i opened the box, i found that everything was there, which was quite a relief following the other review. 45 mins later, i had the drive up and running without any faults. i have never installed any computer peripherals before, and i found it very easy! the installation instructions could have been a little better, but they do the job well. i refered once or twice to my own manual for my dell computer, included in the handbook there are instructions on how to install a new drive! i needed help on taking of the case and removing the drive cage, you can tell what a beginner i am! when everything was installed in the computer, and put back together i felt very confident that my computer was im good hands, the installation of Nero burning software was quick and easy. i would really reccomend this drive, the results are really rewarding, would of given it 5 stars if the instructions were a little better, but as i said theres not much to worry about as they do a good enough job.

Philips 80 Minute CD-R Audio 10 Pack
|
These are really some top-notch audio CD-Rs. I had no problems at all writing or playing, even on CD players that could not read, or could not read very well, other audio CDs I had burned. The 80 minutes is as long as you’re going to find, and 10 high quality cds of this length for £7.99 is n..
