Superb
If you want fast-action, beginner to master world war 2 flight combat, then see this! You can fly in the British RAF, the American USAAF or the German Luftwaffe in planes including the famous Supermarine Spitfire MK-1, and the durable Hawker Hurricane bomber. The combat gameplay and general flight simulator is just so addictive that you will be hooked as soon as you get the hang of it.
Taking off from a runway is very easy - all you have to do is whip up the propeller, hit full speed and soar into the air. You can also release and retract the flaps to help you land, or if your plane gets shot up you can hit the silk and bail out to live another day.
Medals are also available to earn, these differ for each air force. In the training session there are loads of wicked manoeuvres and combat strategies to practise with, to help you strafe ground targets, take out bombers, divebomb and many evasive manoeuvres.
The weapons include the standard machine-gun, bombs and rockets (unfortunately the rockets are very uneffective). Many views are included in the game to help you find which one suits your flying style and watch yourself pull of amazing stunts.
The modes include Campaign, which is the main mode of the game, free flight, training session and multi-player, in which you can hook up to fly with or against a mate.
This is a superb game. DO NOT MISS OUT ON IT!!!!

Take off, and get carried away!
I used to think Pc games were just for kids, but after trying the flight sim, Im going back into my childhood! I didnt expect to get a lot for the price but I was pleasantly surprised, the hard copy user manual is worth 15 quid on its own, just for the historical information it contains about WW2 planes etc. I find the program rivetting, there are features about it I am not keen on but on the whole I think its edge of seat stuff. It does have a slightly out of date interface, but then again it is an old game, some of the missions are samey perhaps Microsoft were running out of ideas, I dont know. On the whole I find it useful for getting rid of stress, bomb a few convoys, shoot down the enemy, blow up some guns..... and all before tea! Got to go now, Carruthers is limping home all shot up.........

If anyone is still considering Buying this.....
This is what you would expect from Microsoft the flight model is of course very good which is why I have given it 3 stars, however that really is it. The big problem with this game is that it is a combat game without decent damage textures, your plane performance gets retarded slightly, but it doesnt have the standard flight sim thing of damage on individual portions of the plane, which is to be honest utterly unacceptable. The Campaigns are also very lightweight and basicGet Janes World War 2 Fighters for a proper damage laden flight model, or European Air War for some decent campaigns. This was good when it came out and if you can pick it up second hand is worth a look, but now is really showing its age.
