Those that like their computer games will like Baldurs Gate
I can still remember the over-whelming excitement when my brother brought this game with him when coming to visit. After about half an hour, I was hooked, and played it pretty much constantly until he left. And then, of course, I bought it.At the time it stretched my PC to the limit, and may feel a little dated now, but to be honest, despite technological advancement throughout the further Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale games, I never quite re-captured that new excitement. In the original (on sale here with pretty much all you need in the way of patches etc) the story is electric, the quests seem original, it doesnt quite seem just hack and slash. Basically it is Dungeons and Dragons, not quite the same as the pen and paper game (its sequels do get closer as they go on) but certainly as good a representation as had been released up to that point. As addictive as RPGs should be, you end up caring for your characters, shouting at the screan and all that sort of important stuff. As you can probably guess, I dont really have anything bad to say about it. Its pretty much my favourite game of all time. A fantastic place to start or continue your computer role playing.

Better than eating soggy cornflakes
Ive probably spent more time playing this game than any other. Its a massive world to explore, and theres absolutely loads of mini-quests that can be resolved in different ways. The graphics are pretty good. Not spectacular, but pretty good. Sound is well used, especially if you have surround sound on your PC. Another plus is that if you complete this game (which will take a while, especially if you stray from the main storyline), you can import your characters into the sequel. Its not perfect- characters sometimes get stuck trying to cram through a doorway (easliy fixed but annoying), they dont walk very fast, and if you want to get the most out of the game, you need to do a lot of walking. It also doesnt look as impressive as the other spin-offs (Baldurs Gate II, Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment). Still, its probably one of the best RPGs on budget.

Listen up heathens !
I must admit that when I first heard about this game I wasnt convinced of its merits. Sure I was a big fan of Japenese Rpgs like Final Fantasy and Zelda but I was afraid that Baldurs Gate would be too complex for me, plus the graphics were functional at best. I actually gave it a miss when it was first released only to take the plunge and buy it when it hit budget. Now,before I continue this review, if theres anyone in a similar situation, I have just two things to say to them 1)Go buy this game NOW! 2)Why are you still here? Get going! For those fools who need further convincing, let me say it simply and clearly-Baldurs Gate is the most addictive game of all time. Its not Tetris style "just one more go" addictiveness, or Counterstrikes "kill, kill, kill" addictiveness. No, its the best kind of addiction, the kind where youre playing, look at your watch to realise that three hours have passed, then shrug your shoulders and keep on going. Im not sure why its so uterlly absorbing. Maybe its the the free-form nature and the myriad of varied sub-quests. Maybe its the simple yet intriguing storyline. Maybe its the balanced and rewarding combat. Maybe its simply the urge to tool-up and level-up your characters as much as possible. But whatever it is, itll hook you. And itll never let you go.

CD/DVD Tower - PSX2
|
"I love watching DVDs and listening to music on the PS2, with the sound station on full. The problem is that I have no-where to put the disks!" That all changed when I bought the disk tower. It has a sleek design which fits both 8 and 12cm CDs and/or DVDs. Along with matching the PS2s colour scheme,..

CD/DVD/Memory Card Carry Case - PSX2
|
The case is very nice and is adequately sturdy, but I have to say, whats the point? Why would someone want to carry their PS2 around with them? (unless theyre going to play it during their lunch hour.) The product is good, but without a purpose. All I have to say to the designer is, "Nice try, but i..

Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines - Premier Range (DVD Packaging)
|
Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines places you in the command of one to six soldiers (known as, naturally, the commandos), all with their own sets of skills, strengths and weaknesses. The game defies standard real-time strategy conventions by eschewing such typical features as resource accumulation and unit creation. Pyro Studios and Eidos Interactive, in changing the way real-time strategy games are played, have moulded Commandos: BEL into a far more tactical and strategic game than its..

Sony DVP-NS300 Black DVD Player
|
The DVP-NS300 is Sonys entry-level DVD player, but still boasts the comprehensive set-up controls of the more expensive models. It also carries Sonys TV Virtual Surround and a Block Noise Reduction system to improve picture quality. On professionally encoded modern DVDs the effect of this is negligible, but it does help with some of the early DVDs which were poorly encoded, helping to reduce artefacts. The first thing that strikes you about this player as you pull it from its box, is that it ..

Sony DVP-NS400D Black DVD Player
|
The Sony DVP-NS400 is a DVD player complete with a surround sound decoder and some excellent little touches. The slim NS400 has Sonys typical classy finish, sleek and purposeful. The menu system is mercifully easy to use and the player is simple to set up. Some thought has obviously been put into the onscreen menus, which can be confusing on some players and require frequent reference to the manual. Itll play CD-RW and CD-R discs, which can come in handy if youve a PC with CD-Writer, but for man..
