Flimsy plastic construction - not impressed
My Pyro webcam arrived today and on removing it from the box found that the stand was broken. On examining it closer I was amazed at how fragile it was. Nevertheless I gave it a try on WindowsXP. The picture had a distinct green tinge and was not very clear. The old Intel CS330 webcam was far superior.

Poor experience
I had several problems with this webcam. Though it is able to maintain high frame rates, I dont have much else good to say about this product:1. It seems picky about which firewire port it recognizes. I have four on my machine, one with the soundcard and 3 on a separate riser card. Its own software recognizes only the port on the soundcard, while WinXP has no problems with the other ports. 2. Image quality in low (normal indoor room-level) light is poor. The contrast is low and hard to improve; the picture looks as though youre looking through a window screen with gray pixels in darker areas. 3. The controls are fussy, unexplained, and dont behave intuitively. 4. It doesnt work with Yahoo! webcam service. (Cant get a low-enough resolution at the right framerate, apparently.) I will be purchasing something else soon. Sorry I bought this product, but I should have researched it better. --dv

Good, with reservations
Clearly built to a budget, the translucent case emphasises that theres not much hardware inside. However, the image is good, and the drivers appear to work well. The base is drilled for a standard tripod.On the down side, if youre looking to use this with a laptop, the cam needs a 6-wire powered FireWire port. No power supply is provided with the cam. Neither too is a FireWire socket, so this is going to end up at the end of the "chain".
