This battery is also good for the 4800. I used my camera a lot when sight-seeing in London and didnt need a spare battery, but it was a sunny day and therefore i didnt use the flash and couldnt use the LCD. However, taking video clips of a firework display on the south coast and using the flash for taking other photos that night soon put strain on my original battery. Your need for a spare battery depends heavily on what you demand from your camera. But eitherway, I would not risk leaving the house without a spare, if only for piece of mind. Imagine being in the midst of a special day and having your battery run out! This battery (and its box) is small and light enough to carry in your camera bag or bum bag, so its no trouble to keep it with you.

The 4900 zoom is a great camera , but if you dont get a spare battery , you`ll be sorry , battery life isnt great using the rear lcd and flash , you have been warned !!!!!!!

Like the previous reviewer, I bought this "sight unseen" as there was no photograph. Its a lovely case, very well made and thought out - but its got room for about 4 Ixi (plural of Ixus?) - and the camera just rattles around inside it. 
This camera is perfect for snaps, and wonderful for beautiful close up shots. Since I bought mine I have taken it everywhere because it is so small and unobtrusive to use. And I have convinced at least 3 of my friends to go digital. I have taken more photos with this camera in the last 4 months than.. 
The Powershot G1 aims at offering professional camera features in a compact body. Its only slightly heavier and larger than a typical point-and-shoot compact camera but manages to pack a lot into the space. The 3.3 Megapixel CCD gives a commendable maximum image size of 2,048 by 1,536. Theres a 3x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom on top. The lens retracts into the body when its switched off. The 1.8-inch LCD panel tilts and swivels which proves a boon when you get more adventurous positioning ..
