Caberet - 30th Anniversary Special Edition [1972]
What can I say other than excellent!! This film works as well today as it did when it was first released. The amazing cast and wonderful crew work together to create an absolute musical master piece. The blend of Nazi Germany and caberet may not seem to be an obvious one but as anyone who has seen the play or read the book will know it works. I wasnt even born when this adaptation was released but it is now and Im sure will remain for years my favourite film! They just dont make them like this anymore!

An absolute masterpiece.
Perhaps not the greatest musical ever made - though certainly it should be in the top ten. Perhaps not the greatest film ever made - though unquestionably it should be in the top fifty. As a complete package though, its hard to beat and this admirable DVD provides an excellent opportunity to reappraise a worthy winner of eight Oscars (beaten to best film by The Godfather).Liza Minnelli has never been better. Joel Gray is sublime. The era is perfectly defined. And the famous scene of the singing Nazi youth, still sends a shiver down your spine. The comprehensive extras on the DVD add to the film, by filling in some of the details you might not know if you werent around when the film was initially released. The pristine quality of the film itself is faultless, certainly much better than the earlier video release. The film was rated 18 when first issued in this country due to some of the adult themes it covers, but compared to much of todays cinema it now seems quite mild. However, be careful who you watch it with; your ageing maiden Aunt and the under twelves might find it hard to take!
