Firmware and Headphones have been improved
A few reviews need updating. Archos have been listening to their customers!* The headphones shipped with the product have been changed; they are of similar design but much better quality and have a volume control. * The firmware (the jukeboxs operating system) is updated! It is bug free and easier to use. The Archos Jukebox is good in fact its very good. It is a combination of 2 devices that naturally go together. There is an mp3 player and a USB hard disk. Once plugged in it appears as an extra drive on your computer, music and data files are copied across in the usual windows interface. Files can be transferred to other computers very easily, windows recognised the drive as soon as it is plugged in and installs it automatically. The music player is easy to use and high quality. Its only direct competition is the DAP suitcase which may have marginally better sound quality but is huge, lacks the hard disk functions and has half the battery life of the Archos. There are smaller, better portable hard disks around AND there are smaller, better sounding mp3 players available but none achieve both with the quality the Archos Jukebox does.

Impressive
There is no doubt about it the Archos 6000 is an impressive piece of kit. It is a lot smaller than I expected and very easy to use. The manual is basic in the extreme but it is enough to get you going, and you can find a lot of online reviews which tell you all about the firmware fixes. For instance to change the volume press the "+" or "-" buttons at the same time as pressing the "on" button. The USB transfer of music file is fast and painless but it does eat batteries in this mode so make sure you have the DC adapter in when you initially transfer your music collection. My only point of contention with the device is with the current firmware which does not allow you to play random tracks across sub-directories but this seems to be a common gripe and hopefully a firmware upgrade will fix this. All in all this is the best high storage mp3 player I have seen, the fact that it doubles as a portable hard disk is just icing on the cake!

Happy (mostly!)
Like: Massive storage, quality sound, loud with bud-style headphones, highly portable, no skips (yet!), fast transfer from PC, can store any dataDislike: No remote (pain), hard-disk contents mysteriously vanished on first use (had to reformat it - luckily only had a few tracks, hasnt happened since I fully charged the batteries), Playlists only work if theyre in the same directory as the tracks - cant span multiple directories... Overall: great product, even better if Archos release a remote and keep the firmware updates coming...
