a positive upgrade
As my last Microsoft Intellimouse lasted 2 years with nearly daily usage, I have high hopes for this optical mouse. I have not changed my mat, but it glides effortlessly across it, and has positive mouse clicks. The arrow on the screen can stick occasionally due-we are told- to the pattern on the mat. These programmable buttons on the side are a bit dodgy though, I set mine to back. The installation-via cd-went smoothly and it worked first time; all 28 Mb of it. If I had one complaint, it s the size of the mouse application;I remember when mouse drivers were installed from a single floppy!

I have two!
I liked this mouse so much that I bought an another one to use at work. I have used this mouse for around 2 years day in day out and have found it to be excellent. Its well made, feels good in the hand and is accurate. The buttons click well and the scroll wheel feels solid.I play quite a lot of first person shooter games and find that it is more accurate than a ball mouse. One word of caution - if you have a mouse mat with bold colour changes (e.g. blocks of colour that contrast directly) then the mouse can get a bit confused. Small problem on a fantastic mouse.

Ive had better!
The mouse is one of the earlier models, for the new optical technology, and technically, it works well in most circumstances. Except don;t be fooled by microsoft, it is not compatible with all surfaces! it doesnt work well on wood, or on carpet, depite the advertisements! More so, the design is dissapointing, and a major downside to the overall make up of the mouse. The side buttons are too high for your fingers to reach comfortably, and buttons click too loud, with creak as apposed to a click, and the overall design is extremely boring. If I had the choice to replace mine, I would defineatly go for the logitech optical mouse, which also has the added feature of being cordless!
