Edward Scissorhands [10th Anniversary Edition] [1991] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

A wonderful fairy tale
This is director Tim Burtons first cinema pairing with the excellent actor Johnny Depp - a partnership thats still going (on and off) to this day (see also Ed Wood and Sleepy Hollow, which are both fine, fine films). Edward Scissorhands is 100% fairy tale, with a lonely hero trapped in a dark gothic castle. The difference is that the hero looks like a villain - his spiky black hair very reminiscent of The Cures Robert Smith (does anyone else recall the running Scissorhands / Smith running joke on The Mary Whitehouse Experience? - one sketch included Edward Collander-hands, I remember!). One thing I love about this film is the all-pastel fifties village overlooked by the castle - very Pleasantville, but even more pleasant. Also, theres a funny parallel between Tim Burtons "Edward Scissorhands" and Edward D. Wood Jrs "Plan 9 From Outer Space"; Burtons film features the horror great Vincent Price in his last serious role; Woods film stars the horror great Bela Lugosi in his last (albeit very brief) role. Burton later made the film "Ed Wood" as an homage to the late director (and Depp plays Edward Wood, having previously played Edward Scissorhands!) - I wonder if Burton will be paid a similar tribute decades into the future? Who knows.

another tim burton masterpiece beyond 5 stars!
A film by far in a league of its own, a mix of funny 1 liners like " wanna play paper rock scissors?" "nargh" "Why?" "Because im tired of always winning!"
ok so maybe not 1 liner but still humerous, but its also got that side to it with ever vincent price flashback which has you near dreaming, the talent of danny elfman (the guy who done the music for ed scissorhands and other greats like Batman and Sleepy Hollow) is beyond magical, me and my friend Isabel listen to the ice dance and just sail away in our imaginied boats on a nice calm river, yummy, this film will captivate you! i ve watched too many times and im still in love with it, with another fantastic performance by Johnny Depp who is in my opinion one of the greatest actors ever to grace our screen, and suprisingly enough winona ryder i feel it to be her best film, from the first time i saw edward i could relate myself to him so much, if this film wasnt made i dont think id be who iam am today. Excellent film ppl unline no other probably has the top spot on my list!
so go ahead and buy and watch to your hearts content

Just because hes different
In my opinion this has got to be Tim Burtons best film it also has to be Johnny Depps best, even though hes hilarious in Pirates of the Carribean he does to go a bit over the top in that role but this role he plays Edward perfect. Edward Scissorhands is one of my favourite films ever. Its a film that can make you laugh and can make you cry. The story is about Edward who was created by an inventor (respectfully played by Vincent Price )Edward wasnt created perfect he had scissors for hands. I dont get why the inventor didnt give him hands when gave him everything else eg: eyes, feet, hair etc. Anyway the inventor died before Edward could be completed. Ever since then Edward lived alone until a kind lady Peg took him home to live with her and her family. At first everyone is took to Edward, but the novelty soon wears off. But only one person Kim (Beautifully played by Winona Ryder) loves Edward for who he is on the inside. The film deserves 5 stars, watch it and try and be man enough not to shed a tear at the end. Edward Scissorhands Rules!

Raymond Briggs The Snowman : 20th Anniversary Collectors Edition

Well I was a bit sceptical of buying a new improved version of The Snowman as the original is such a classic. However I found a lot of the extras interesting, it gave me a good insight of how animation used to be created. I also found that because it was in widescreen I didnt have the annoying black..

Slap Shot: 25th Anniversary Special Edition [WS] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

Paul Newman and his Butch Cassidy director, George Roy Hill, made a very original comedy in this 1977 story of an over-the-hill player/coach (Newman) for a lousy hockey team who gets results when he teaches his players to get dirty. One of the most hilariously profane movies ever to come out of Hollywood, this is the kind of film that makes its own rules as it goes along. Newman is very good, and while Hill goes for the gusto in terms of capturing the violence of this world, his instinct ..

A Christmas Carol (50th Anniversary Edition) (REGION 1) (NTSC)

This 1951 adaptation of A Christmas Carol, starring Alastair Sim as Ebenezer Scrooge, is hailed by many as the best adaptation of Charles Dickens timeless Christmas story. Certainly, it is a very good movie more than capable of bringing a tear to your eye as you witness Scrooges rebirth as a man who..
