From audio specialists IXOS, the DJ1003 Ministry of Sound headphones offer a professional listening experience and a solid no-nonsense design. Almost identical to the DJ1002 from IXOS, the DJ1003 simply offers a slightly reduced power output. Designed in conjunction with the Ministry of Sound the range is aimed at DJs. Just as with the DJ1002 the headphones make use of 40 mm drivers and are more than good enough to produce enough power to drown out background noise, letting you hear exactly what youre playing. This particular set offers a maximum input power of 1,000 MW but lacks the speaker protection of the DJ1002. The frequency response has a reasonable high of 25 KHz all the way down to an excellent 10 Hz. The volume of the headphones is noticeably less than other models in the range at 103 db/MW. With a 32-ohm impedance, the headphones come with a fixed, three-metre coiled lead with a 3.5 mm gold-plated jack and screw-on 6.3 mm adapter, but no mono/stereo switch. The headphones produce a near perfect sound, though for casual listening the bass might not be considered as warm as other headphones, but it is perfectly defined. Almost important as the sound is the build. The headphones (which can be rotated) are lightweight and reversible, plus the adjustable strap clamps the headphones firmly to your head while being still comfortable to wear for long periods. While being a perfectly accomplished set of headphones with an excellent sound, you might want to consider the DJ1002 or DJ1001 that come with speaker protection. --Nick Baxter |
