Postcard images of sunsets, sunrises, pasture, bog, grazing sheep, old men drinking stout in pubs, pudgy Irish women standing picturesquely in doorways of thatch-roofed cottages, ancient cairns, castles, heather-blanketed cliffs, crashing waves and serene beaches fade one into another, while the mystic compositions of Enya, James Galway, and the Chieftains provide an aural Celtic accessory. Although not inaccurate in their stereotypes, the images nonetheless give no insights into the island that are not already well conceived. --Beth Massa |
