Most of the basics of Spanish are adequately covered. The emphasis is on speaking and understanding. At times, however, the environment takes over the fundamental (if tedious) importance of syntax. Take, for example, the way accents are discarded. The cover blurb claims the package makes learning Spanish fast, easy and fun, or rapido, facil and divertido, which would be accurate were it not for the fact that facil should be spelt fácil and rapido should be spelt rápido. Perhaps accents are not thought to be important for young learners. But Spanish is a complicated language, and, as such, it is important that language-learners do not get into bad habits. While this is a very inexpensive budget-priced package, it might be worth considering a package that offers a more thorough grounding, such as Learn to Spean Spanish 8. --Tabitha Vert
