The Iomega Zip 100 External USB drive is an elegant and affordable portable storage solution. In the box you get the drive itself, plus the necessary cables, power supply and software. You will need to purchase the disks separately, which come pre-formatted for either PC, or Mac. Getting the drive up and running is straightforward, thanks to the painless "plug and play" installation facilitated by USB. The software and drivers for the device all come under the remit of IomegaWare, the bundled software. It is intuitive to use and lets you perform all the necessary tasks for your drive, such as formatting, protecting and managing your disks.
The drive provides data portability on two fronts. The disks themselves, with 100Mb capacity, make it far more effective, and fast to transport files than the now archaic floppy disk. The Zip disks are a well-recognised standard, so if for example, supplying files to companies, you arent likely to run into any compatibility problems. If you do need to get files to, or from a PC which doesnt have a Zip drive, then your USB drive can always be unplugged and taken with you, so that you can plug it in to the other PC and transfer the files. It makes a great solution when you want to move files between work and home, though at this price, it will be tempting to get two drives and just carry the disks.
If moving from a floppy disk as your main method of transporting files, 100MB will seem plenty, but there may well be times when even this is inadequate. The options then are to move to either the Iomega Zip 250 drive, which as the name suggests, supports 250Mb disks, or to get a CD-ReWriter.
