Palm-size, lightweight, and waterproof, Garmins eTrex Summit is a 12-channel handheld global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver. The Summits easy-to-use menu lets you create and view waypoints, save and view track logs, calibrate the compass and altimeter, and access setup features, among others. Its trip and elevation computers calculate a range of data including direction of movement; total and average ascent and descent; current, average and maximum speeds; trip odometer--and much more. The five user buttons located on the units sides allow for simple single-handed operation. Even in dense cloud cover or bad weather, the Summit maintains its lock on available satellites. Garmins TracBack feature reverses your track log, helping you navigate your way back. Its graphical user interface quickly and easily identifies your marked waypoints--up to 500. During normal operation, the Summit runs for up to 16 hours on two AA batteries and up to 22 hours when in battery-save mode. It has a built-in antenna and an external power/data connector. |

Ive owned an eTrex for about four years now. The current Amazon price is just 20% lower than what I paid then. Its quite remarkable for a piece of technology to hold its price so well, and is a reflection of just how well this unit is designed and specified.
It took a lot Internet research to find this little gem but it has paid off as it really does deliver what it claims. It was easy to pair with my Dell Notebook and the whole process took about five minutes. I use it with MS AutoRoute and again there was no problem setting up the GPS tracking feature.. 
Works perfectly with my Axim. Aquires your position in about 60 seconds from a cold start. Works very well in a car even without the external aerial attached. Bundled software is very good and the city maps are quite small in size. Battery drain isnt too noticeable either. Very pleased with it and w.. 
I am very impressed with the geko. I have used other GPS units for the past 6 years but this takes the biscuit! It is very lightweight and rugged. (its been dropped on numerous occasions!) The accuracy it can achieve is amazing. (3ft !!!) 
The on-going navigation instructions are great and voice is great as well when it works.
