| Description |
|
When it comes to affordable high quality sound on your PC, VideoLogics SonicFury sound card is hard to beat, providing CD-quality sound over six channels, with support for Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. Whether youre interested in creating music, getting the best Dolby Digital audio from DVD films or want the latest in surround-sound gaming technology, the SonicFury has it all. Based on the Crystal 4630 Sound Fusion digital sound processor, the card supports the latest in positional surround sound, including Microsofts DirectSound3D, Aureal A3D and Creatives EAX 1 and 2. Whether you have a two, four or even a five speaker set up, the SonicFury can provide you with the best possible sound output. With three built in analogue stereo outputs, as well as a digital out, stereo line-in and microphone, youll have no trouble hooking up your audio equipment. Supporting sound playback up to 48 KHz in 20 bits over six channels, the quality is excellent. Recording is equally impressive at up to 18 bits. For musicians 64 hardware MIDI voices are possible with an unlimited number of possible software voices. The software bundle is geared towards musicians with a comprehensive list of MP3 players, software synthesisers and samplers--including MusicMatch Jukebox, JetAudio, Yamaha Softsynth XG and XG Studio. Installation is simple and problem-free, though the provided 12-page manual is less than impressive. Overall, the SonicFury is a superb sound card for its very reasonable price, though pure gamers may want to opt for a card that comes bundled with a set of games. --Nick Baxter |

Philips CDR775 CD Recorder

It doesnt muster the stellar quality from its analogue outputs that youll find in pricier CD recorders and players, though the digital outputs sound fine. The CDR 775 is equally happy receiving data from either of the two established means of digital audio transmission (opti..

Samsung Yepp 32MB Digital Audio Player
|
The Samsung Yepp is easily one of the coolest-looking digital audio players around. The most outstanding feature of the Yepp is its size--only 3.2 by 2.4 by 0.97 inches and 1.7 ounces; its the size a deck of cards (and just a bit lighter). The controls are easily reached and the player has great sound. Better still, it never skipped a beat during our testing even when it was inadvertently slammed around a few times. Of course, with its small size, youre paying a price in memory. This Yepp hol..
